I. About the MIR “China and Global Affairs”
The Master’s Programme in International Relations “China and Global Affairs” is a 2-year Master’s Degree programme tailored for international students. It provides an in-depth view of a wide range of issues on the global governance and China’s diplomacy on both bilateral and multilateral basis. The programme takes an analytical approach to China’s role and practices in the fast-transforming world unseen in a century, inter alia, the Three Global Initiatives (GSI, GDI, GCI), the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global South etc. It equips students with theoretical, analytical and practical abilities and skills to understand the ‘Chinese path to modernization’ and to explore the world which has become a highly interdependent community with a shared future for all.
The programme brings together the knowledge and expertise of the School of International Studies and diverse teams in Social Sciences and Humanities of the Nanjing University. The School of International Studies, founded in 2021, has a time-honored tradition in political and international studies dating to the 1920s. The SIS offers a full-fledged education granting Bachelor, Master and PhD degrees, and enjoys a wide reputation for its quality discipline in International Politics. The faculty dedicated to the MIR programme possesses PhD degrees and visiting scholar experiences from world-class universities, including Harvard University, Waseda University, Sciences Po Paris, Lomonosov Moscow State University, University of Amsterdam and Seoul National University. The programme also draws on academic resources and think-tank platforms in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province and the Yangtze River Delta.
II. Objectives and Career Prospects
1. Forge a comprehensive understanding of the global world and the Global China,
2. Develop abilities to conduct research in the fields of international relations and global governance,
3. Prepare student for various career paths, typically in governments, diplomatic corps, international organizations, transnational firms, and/or in the academia, with a sense of global citizenship.
III. Requirements
1. Admission:
(1) Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens in good health.
(2) Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree or above and with an interest in international relations and global governance.
(3) Applicants whose native language is not English should submit TOFEL, IETLS or Duolingo scores (minimal requirement: TOEFL 85; IELTS 6.0; Duolingo English Test: 100).
(4) Applicants should be willing to learn Chinese and reach HSK 3 Level proficiency (Elementary Chinese) before graduation.
2. Language of teaching: English
3. Program Structure: The program takes 2 years of full-time study, including classroom instruction, practicum, and thesis writing.
It requires 32 credits through courses (listed in Section V.), upon which students are eligible to pursue the thesis of Master's Degree.
IV. Tuition
Tuition: 45,000 yuan (about $6500) per academic year

Remark: Type A: Compulsory Courses Language courses can be exempted with HSK3. 7 credits required. Type B: Focused on Core Knowledge in Global Governance. 6 credits required. Type C: Focused on Various Dimensions of Global Governance and China. Type D: Optional Courses based on personal interest and orientation.
